Who they are
The Brotherhood
The women organise, fund and star in the festival. There are some 180 sisters, with a board, an assembly and statutes.
A corporation of women
Reports from 1960 speak of a Brotherhood of Saint Agatha for married women only. In 1998 the members agreed unanimously at an assembly to form an association. Its statutes, updated in 2003, are entered in the Castilla-La Mancha Register of Associations under general no. 5155 and provincial no. 1488.
Its aims are two: to recover and promote traditions, and to «promote the social wellbeing of women and their development, integration and participation in all areas of their lives».
Its canonical seat is the parish church of Our Lady of the Assumption, where the saint’s image is kept. The town hall works with the organisers every year.
How it is organised
Chief Mayoress and councillors
Drawn by lot among the sisters, every year. The mayoress governs during the festival.
Honorary Mayoress and Honorific Mayoress
The first is an invited role model; the second, a tribute to one of the oldest sisters.
Board and assembly
The general assembly of all members is the supreme body. The posts are unpaid.
